High School

TKS offers a diverse and inclusive high school (HS) academic program enhanced by enriching co-curricular opportunities for our 14-18 year-olds, preparing all learners for complex problem solving and that next important step beyond high school.

The high school program includes options spanning the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP) within the framework of a coherent 9-12 high school diploma.

With a focus on inquiry-based and standards-aligned learning within a rigorous, collaborative context, students have many course choices and multiple pathways available to them as they grow, contribute and envision a better future for themselves and others.

Personalized Learning in the High School

The following diploma options are available at TKS:

  • TKS HS Diploma
  • TKS Modified HS Diploma
  • IB Diploma

Additional High School Credentials:

Beyond our diploma options, the TKS credentialing program awards additional credentials for outstanding work in the areas of STEM and ENVC. The levels of credentialing are Gold, Silver and Bronze. The levels reflect work in both academic and co-curricular domains. The credential is co-signed by the Vice President Education & Academic Affairs, KAUST in cases of a well documented and high quality university connection and represents formalized evidence which students may use when applying at universities or workplaces.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Student agency and leadership is a key feature of the high school approach, with a strong student leadership model in place. The student body elects a student president and vice-president each year, as well as grade-level representatives. Student leadership aims to activate diversity and empower students through authentic opportunities, positive change, and a shared vision for an inclusive, shared, positive school culture and community.

BELONGING

We use evidence-based practices and apply a holistic approach to support individual pathways and aspirations while promoting well-being and a sense of belonging. Our emphasis on diversity, inclusion and an appreciation of multiple perspectives suits our international community very well.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)

Each high school student is assigned to an advisory and a high school counselor. In addition to benefiting from social-emotional learning and support through advisory, our students receive expert guidance from their counselor on progress towards graduation, a best fit approach to college counseling and planning for life beyond high school.

Connection with the University in the HS

Our high school students have access to world-leading researchers, benefit from school-university collaboration (e.g., Brain Awareness activities), expert guest speakers in classes, and even university resources in some cases.

The school offers WISER Internships involving 2 options for high school students:

  1. The internship experience - this option is meant to enrich the student’s experience, can contribute to CAS hours but it is not credit bearing
  2. The professional internship - this option is credit bearing
